Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16 1936 - - August 17 15th, 2015) was an American dancer, dancer, and choreographer. Craig is most well-known for her appearances in Batman's television series from the 1960s Batman and Marta who played an Orion slave girl wearing green skin, in the Star Trek 1969 episode "Whom Gods Destruction". The Huffington Post referred to her as "a pioneer in female super heroes" on TV. Yvonne Craig was born and was raised in Taylorville, Illinois. In 1951 , her family relocated from Illinois to Dallas. In Dallas, she attended W. H. Adamson High School in Dallas as well as Sunset High School. However she didn't finish her education because she had only "one credits for PE". Craig was recognized by Alexandra Danilova (a ballerina and teacher) and was accepted into the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo in 1951, becoming the youngest corps de ballet member. It was an amazing experience that allowed her to do stunts in the role of Batgirl. The ballet company she was with ended in the year 1957 "over disagreements over casting decisions" and relocated to Los Angeles in the hopes of continuing her dancing career. However, she found herself being cast in film roles. One of her first television appearances was in an episode from the TV series Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover", 1958) along with Neil Hamilton, who played her stepfather (later Hamilton played Police Commissioner James Gordon, Batgirl's father). Soon after her appearance in The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story (all 1959) and Gidget (all 1958) she was also in guest roles as Beverly Mills on the TV show Mr. Lucky (also 1959). Craig was in the film with Bing Crosby (1960), and Seven Women from Hell (1961) that starred Cesar Romero. In 1962, she appeared as an actor on Western Laramie's episode "The Long Road Back". Craig also starred with Elvis Presley in the roles of happened at the World's Fair (1963), and Kissin' Cousins (64). She also starred in the science fiction film Mars Needs Women (1966) and appeared in In Like Flint (1967) as the role of a Russian ballet dancer opposite James Coburn.
