Thora Birch

Thora Birch, born March 11, 1982 is an American actress. In 1988 she made her film debut in the film Purple People Eater. For this role, she was awarded an Young Artist Award as "Best Young Actress under nine years old". Birch became a household name as young actress and was featured in films like All I Want for Christmas (1991), Patriot Games (92), Hocus Pocus (93), Monkey Trouble (1994), Now and Then (1995) and Alaska (1996). In 1999 she was nominated to receive a BAFTA nomination. After that, she starred in Ghost World (2001) as Enid. She was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. Birch was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2003 for her role as the title character of Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story. Birch was also on Dungeons & Dragons (2000) (2001), The Hole (2004), Silver City (2004), Dark Corners (2006) and Winter of Frozen Dreams (2009). Birch has also appeared in the role of Whisperer Mary/ Gamma in The Walking Dead's Season 10. Birch was born in Los Angeles, the eldest child of Jack Birch and Carol Connors. Birch who's family's first surname was Biersch, is of German-Jewish, Scandinavian, French-Canadian and Italian origins.  Her name, Thora is the name that comes from Thora, the Norse god of thunder and lightning ("Thor") and could be her name had she had been a child. Kian Bolt Birch Her younger brother, is also her mother. Both were adult film actors and were both part of Deep Throat. Based on their experience in the entertainment industry it was difficult for them at first to encourage Thora. However, Thora's photograph was shown to agents after a babysitter saw her imitation commercials. Birch was given her first major break at the age four when her babysitter accompanied her to an audition for an Quaker Oats commercial.
