Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25, 1994, is an American retired gymnast who was an artistic. She was also twice Olympian. She was captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the in 2016 the "Final Five,"" U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics team. She won a team gold medal during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Gabby Douglas and Raisman are the only Americans to have back-to-back gold medals at this competition. Raisman took home silver medals for the individual all-around and floor exercise. Raisman also won silver medals for the individual all around and for floor exercise. She also is the two-time national champion of floor exercise (2012,2015) and the 2012 champion national of balance beam, and five times medalist at the national championships for all around (silver in 2016, silver in 2011, 2012 2013, 2012 and 2013 and 2015). Inducted into The International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber, the former gymnast from high school as well as Rick Raisman, on May 25, 1994 in Needham. She has three younger siblings: Brett, Chloe, and Madison. Raisman is Jewish and has said, "I take a lot of satisfaction in the fact that I can not only represent the U.S.A as well as the Jewish community throughout the world. Raisman started gymnastics when she was 18 months old. She credits her first love of gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", a U.S. women's gymnastics team that won a gold medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics. She studied at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing until the level 8. After that, she joined Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club with coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman completed her studies at Needham High School, 2012 after completing her senior year via online courses and training to compete in the Olympics.
